Canopy Frame
I started working on the canopy frame. The frame itself fits pretty well right out of the box, but tweaking it that last little bit has consumed some time. Initial fit to the fuselage showed an excessive gap between the C-702 skin and the F-771 skin. The manual says this should be a .020″ or .032″ gap. Other builders say it will be even more in the end to prevent the two skins from catching on each other when the canopy opens. So towards this goal, I had to take .1″ off each C-619 spacer and file a little bit off the F-768 seal supports.
This additional clearance allowed me to butt the two skins together, then back them off enough to squeeze several .032″ spacers in the seam. Fit everywhere else was pretty good, so I climbed inside and drilled the C-614 center splice plate, and then the row of rivets aft of the hinge point.
