Baffle Notes
A lot of people whine about the engine baffling installation, but it really isn’t that bad. Lots of fit, trim, fit, trim iterations, but otherwise it’s not too difficult. My installation was pretty standard except for the corner above the oil cooler. I added an arched piece of AL that allows the rubber baffling material to go straight across the back of the aluminum baffling. This save two right angle turns (leak prone) for the rubber baffling. I also added piece of stainless steal tubing for added support of the oil cooler. Sometimes the added weight of the cooler and cause cracks to develop in baffling over time. The tube should help avoid this problem.
Update: When I later sold the RV-8 with 365 hours on it, the baffling setup was still functioning trouble-free.
